What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is the therapeutic use of hypnosis to help people change for the better.
Hypnosis is a very natural state of pleasant deep relaxation. During hypnosis you are not asleep, you are in a state of heightened awareness, where the mind remains clear, alert and focused on something.
Hypnosis may feel as if you are daydreaming which many people experience on a daily basis. For example, if you have ever been so absorbed in a book or a film it has felt as if you are actually there, that is a form of hypnosis.
You always remain in control. You cannot do or say anything contrary to your conscious wishes, behaviour or morality. For most people there is actually no such thing as a ‘hypnotised feeling’ only a feeling of calmness, possibly the most relaxed feeling you can achieve without actually being asleep.
Most symptoms result from conflict between the conscious and subconscious parts of our mind. During hypnosis, the active conscious part of your mind is completely relaxed. This allows you to tune into your subconscious so that therapy can work at a deeper level. This can facilitate the successful treatment of conflicts.
